I've added them (in another style) to our painted, plain melamine drawer fronts.
Let me tell you, melamine is tough as nails. (One reason I'm not too eager to replace these cabinets all together, just yet!)

"Before"
The handles remind me of a smile under a handlebar mustache (cheerful, no?) and they make the most lovely little *clink* sound when opening and closing these plain drawers.

I love these knobs! I think I would keep the cabinets until the kids are older-cause like you see melamine wears like iron!
